David Tolson, Managing Director
David Tolson has a long history of success with small businesses in Colorado and brings over 15 years of experience in sales, operations, acquisitions, and value creation. Prior to founding CapitalValue Advisors, David worked in Colorado’s high-tech community as the lead Business Development officer for NeoCore, iWitness, and IQ3G, where he was primarily responsible for growth strategies and strategic planning. David also created the first successful strategic business unit in J.D. Edwards 22 year history by exceeding the business unit quota by 330%. David is a graduate of Colorado State University and earned an MBA (emphasis in finance) from the University of Colorado, where he was awarded the Beta Gamma Sigma designation for outstanding scholastic achievement.
Mr. Tolson is a member of the Institute of Business Appraisers, which is the leading valuation / appraisal organization for the appraisers of small and medium sized businesses in the United States. He has been awarded the AIBA (Accredited by the Institute of Business Appraisers) designation. The AIBA designation is awarded to those candidates who have successfully completed vigorous educational and testing requirements and are then certified by a highly critical peer review process. Mr. Tolson is among 80 AIBA’s in the United States, and is among roughly 500 people who have received designations from the prestigious IBA.
In his free time, David spends time with his wife and two children, competes in triathlons (including the Florida Ironman), enjoys skiing and mountain biking.
Chris Younger, Managing Director
Chris Younger is a graduate of Harvard Law School with 20 years’ experience in executive management, marketing, sales, mergers & acquisitions, and law. Chris is also the founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Silvercloud Companies, and is the Chairman of the Board for its operating businesses: Silvercloud Construction Group, a leading concrete fabricator in Denver, Future Proof Communications, a provider of innovative communications solutions to businesses across the United States, and BidBridge Colorado, a distributor of online e-procurement solutions. Before helping create CapitalValue Advisors, Chris helped found and was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Expanets, the nation’s largest ($1.2 billion in revenues) and leading provider of converged communications solutions. During his tenure with Expanets, Chris also led the acquisition of 27 different businesses, ranging in size from $2 million to over $1 billion in annual revenues (in total over $400 million in transaction value), and was instrumental in helping Expanets complete a significant turnaround during a turbulent time in the communications industry, leading to its acquisition by Avaya for in late 2003.
As part of his involvement in the communications industry, Chris was also the Founding Chairman and a Board Member for the Enterprise Communications Association, a prior board member and advisor to ChanneLynx, a Seattle-based developer of message brokering software for networked devices, and an advisory board member for Popular Telephony, a French developer of a groundbreaking peer-to-peer, serverless voice over IP technology. Chris has also been a member of the Castle Pines Village Design Review Committee, the South Denver Metro Chamber’s Economic Development Group, and a Board Member for the Dove Valley Metropolitan District.
Prior to his work with Expanets and its parent company, Chris worked as a corporate and securities attorney with Wilson, Sosini, Goodrich & Rosati, Silicon Valley’s leading law firm. He started his career as a law clerk to the Honorable Jesse E. Eschbach, Senior Judge for the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, where he authored several published opinions.
Chris is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio, and was named one of Denver’s “Top 40 Under 40” business leaders by The Denver Business Journal. During his tenure at Harvard, Chris was the Managing Editor for the Harvard Law Review.
In his free time, Chris coaches youth soccer, spends time with his three children, golfs, mountain bikes and competes in triathlons, including Ironman races in Florida, Wisconsin, and Coeur D'Alene.
Zack Gibson, Senior Associate
Zack Gibson joined CapitalValue Advisors as an analyst in 2008. His responsibilities include financial analysis and modeling, market research and assistance with client valuations. Previously, Zack was with Hopen Therapeutics, a venture capital firm in Grand Rapids, MI focused on early- to mid-stage life science investments. At Hopen, Zack assisted with financial valuation, due diligence and analysis of potential investments. Other experience includes internships at Merrill Lynch and New York Life.
Zack graduated with honors from Calvin College earning a dual B.A. degree in Spanish and Economics. He is currently pursuing his MBA and MS Finance from The University of Denver. He remains fluent in Spanish and enjoys skiing and international travel.
Peter Hansen, Associate
Peter Hansen graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Denver, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. There he was recognized by the international honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma, for academic achievement in the study of business. As part of his curriculum, he studied at the Prague School of Economics in the Czech Republic.
Mr. Hansen joined CapitalValue Advisors as an Analyst in 2009. His responsibilities include analyzing, executing, and closing mid-market transactions across a wide range of industries. He is also involved in financial analysis and modeling, valuation and market research.
Previously, Peter was an Analyst with Cobalt Holdings and Arrowhead Money Market Funds in Denver, CO. There he performed qualitative and quantitative analysis and due diligence of companies across a wide range of industries. In addition, he authored several research reports regarding the firms’ credit-worthiness. Peter has also had experience with a securities brokerage firm and a regional bank.
He enjoys hiking, golf, and travel in his spare time.
Jason Dembeck, Associate
Jason joined CapitalValue in 2007 as an Associate and is a licensed real estate broker in Colorado. Prior to joining CapitalValue, Jason was an independent real estate broker, and worked for Intrawest Retail Group, where he managed sales teams and marketing strategy. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Marketing and was a member of CU's freestyle ski team.
