What valuation method is right for your particular situation?

The answer is not as straightforward as it appears.  CapitalValue has a specific and disciplined approach to accurately estimate the value of your business based on your particular requirements.  We do more than just select one approach or one method within that approach.  We look at ALL approaches, using all methods that apply.  Why do we go to such lengths?  To ensure that the valuation we provide is as accurate as possible.

Why use a valuation expert instead of a CPA?

Unfortunately, the accounting industry has come under tremendous scrutiny as a result of recent problems within several notable public companies.  Consequently, regulatory guidelines have been established in order to eradicate conflicts of interest within accounting firms.   The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 specifically declares that an accounting firm shall not provide any advisory or consultation services, including valuation, when that accounting firm is engaged in audit and tax matters with a business.  In essence, valuations now need to be performed by a completely independent valuation specialist trained in business valuation.  The specialists at CapitalValue are experts in business valuation related work.  In addition, we look at business valuation through the eyes of a business person, not an accountant.  This provides the most accurate and reliable valuation possible.

In a typical valuation, we analyze the following:

The history of the business

Historical financial performance

The economic outlook for the economy and the specific industry

Market positioning of the company including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats

Management’s outlook and projected operating performance

Comparable public and / or private companies with recent transaction history

We tour your facility, meet with the management team, and research trends in the marketplace.  CapitalValue combines our business acumen and experience in appraisal with our financial savvy to develop a sound valuation you can count on.

CapitalValue is familiar with IRS revenue rulings, legislation, and case law that deal with business valuation.  CapitalValue’s valuation reports comply with the Appraisal Institute's Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the American Society of Appraisers' Principles of Appraisal Practice and Code of Ethics, and the Institute of Business Appraisers' Business Appraisal Standards.
